In a lesson, the question asked about the Canary Islands. Since the islands will always be in the ocean, I answered "son' instead of "estan" and it was wrong.

Namely, adding a 'dr' to the stem before the regular endings.

I will leave ... Saldré

I will put ... Pondré

Is there a rule? Only for -er and -ir verbs?

Just want to clarify: 

We say “a las cuatro de la tarde”.  

Are there any other prepositions that we use with specific times?

Why: que había muchas opciones rather than: que hay muchas opciones or even subjunctively: que haya muchas opciones?

Experimenté una mezcla de repulsión y compasión por el protagonista, cuyas acciones estremecedoras se entrelazan con la dura realidad de la España rural.

My dictionary seems to indicate that  actos would be more appropriate here as it translates as 'deeds'.  I'm not clear about the difference.

las comunidades indígenas están reclamando que se les devuelva algunas piezas de museo, porque pertenecían a sus antepasados.

I'm slightly confused as to why this uses 'devuelva' and not 'devuelvan' given that it's 'algunas piezas' being returned and 'las comunidades indigenas' doing the demanding. Please could someone offer an explanation?

It seems as if porque would convey the same idea and is probably more often used in conversation.  So is de tanto more formal, literary or is it used in the street?
