I don't hear the S at the end of nuestros when the speaker says nuestroS recuerdos. Am I just failing to hear it, or is it in fact silent?

In a children's story, people named a baby tapir "Tapete". Does the name carry a meaning of affection by changing the word tapir and making it sound cute? Or do they just want to name the baby tapir with the meaning of the word "mat"? Thank you!
Re: Cuando (When) is followed by a verb in the subjunctive mood to express a future event still to happen.
In all the examples, the 2nd clause uses simple future or imperative. I get that these can be used, but does that mean that the present can't be used? Can we say: "Cuando vayas al mercado, compras fruta y verdura.
