These constructions have always confounded me and I have learned to accept them without being able to understand the "rationale."

Excellent topic.  Just a small thing:  the word "family" is singular in English, as in "Your family is cool."

That sentence "yo huelo siempre bien" translates to I always smell good.

"huelo" in this sense means for the subject to have a scent, not like "I always smell something good"

The sentence "nosotros olemos las rosas del jardín" translates to we smell the roses in the garden.

in this sense, "olemos" means to physically perceive a smell

So it has two meanings kind of like how it does in English, am I understanding this right?

It seems to me that in many cases we could substitute the imperfect with perfect. The main difference would be that in the former we talk about a repeated activity and in the latter about whether something ever took place or a few times at the most.

I notice that Spanish often inserts el/la where English doesn't. Like "como la observación, la intuición y la lógica." whereas in English one writes "like observation, tuition, and logic."

Is there a rule for this?

Could you please provide a list with the most common ones at the end of the lesson?

Could I say La ultima vez que la vi fue hace...

Two of the examples shown for por are still confusing for me (por mí, jaja). Both translate to "for + pronoun", but I am having a hard time knowing the difference here. It seems subtle.

Antonio lo ha hecho por mí.
Antonio has done it for me.

Para ti es muy fácil todo.
For you everything is easy.
