Si iba a la peluquería, me gastaba mucho dinero.
If I went to the hairdresser, I spent a lot of money.

Sorry but I can't make any sense out of the use of  English in this example.

"When I went to the hairdresser, I spent a lot of money"   No problem

"If I had been to the hairdresser, I would have spent a lort of money"  OK

"If I were to go to the hairdresser, I would spend a lot of money"

"If I go to the hairdresser, I shall spend a lot of money"

The example:  If I went to the hairdreser, I spent a lot of money" is not good English.

Could you also say “Me había regalado un esqueje”?

Under the C1 topic of "How to say to remind someone of something with the verb recordar", the question is: 

El olor de esta comida _________________ mi ninez. 
The smell of that food reminds me of my childhood. 
HINT: It conveys something that is brought to her mind. 

(Sorry, I can't type the tilde above the n). 

The accepted answer is "me recurerda a". I think it should be "me recuerda".

The cases mentioned above using the preposition "a" are all to do with "finding some kind of similarity between two things or two people". This is when we use the preposition a. 

However, there are cases when it still means "to remind of ..." but here the idea is that "something is brought to mind".

The lesson says "Sometimes "ya" is omitted, and the structure admits some flexibility"

But when is the "ya" omitted? And why?

The given translation was:

"tienen que ser acreditados por"

and my answer, marked incorrect, was:

"deberían ser acreditados por"

Considering acordarse vs recordar, is one more common than the other in LatAm Spanish for talking about remembering? Also, is there a lesson that talks about when to use and not use “de” with acordarse? Gracias!

I chose "quisieron" because there isn't any verbal clue that they actually  went rambling and "tried", so how can one decide which is the correct answer? They could have had the desire without the intention!
