Using Cómo + ir+ infinitivo para expressar lo obvio

En este ejemplo  "¡Cómo no iba a apoyarlos! Es su obligación" .  La traducción  es 

Of course they support them! It's their duty. ?Por qué no se usa la forma plural de ir, "¡Cómo no iban a apoyarlos! ?

Hola Noel 

There was a typo in that sentence! It should be saying "iban a.." as you said, as the subject is "ellos". Well spotted! It's been corrected.
