Cómo estás Hello, about the question: "Pedrito, how are you? " My answers were: ¿cómo estás?, ¿qué tal? and ¿cómo está?. The bot took my third choice as non correct. At the explanation tab however, it states : "even when we greet a person using their first name, we can still use a formal greeting as a sign of respect for an elderly person or because we feel that person prefers a more formal approach - in this instance we can still use the formal question: "¿Cómo está?", for example: Carmen, ¿cómo está?" So, I dont understand why cant we use the formal type for Pedrito too. I would think because he is a child but still a child could have the right to prefer a more formal approach. What is the case here, and why is the question: "Pedrito, ¿cómo está? wrong?

using pronouns with llamarseIn the grammar section of llamas it says about pronouns: it is actually more common to drop them, so "Ella se llama Clara" = "Se llama Clara".

I forgot to drop it the first time, so I got a "nearly correct". The second time I dropped it, and it was still "nearly correct". - This I don't understand...

Latin America focus

I'm new to this Spanish learning service and there's so about this that I really like - however - this is very very Europe focused. So much so that it blows my mind. I recognize that any Spanish learning is a good thing but it does add to my already considerable frustration with learning Spanish that I'm learning things that seem useless to me at this point. SO - is there a mod that can be activated to make this service more Latin America facing? AND shouldn't there be some up front notification that this is a program that is rooted in Spanish from Spain - which isn't what everyone wants.

haber in conditional vs imperfect subjuntive

Hi Inma,

This lesson says that sometimes haber in the imperfect subjunctive can replace haber in the conditional; but doesn't say when. I had a tutor in Mexico who claimed (that least in some cases) the construction had to be hubiera....hubiera; whereas a Mexican friend said the construction is always hubiera.....habría or vice versa depending on which clause comes first. This lesson seems to say you can replace habría with hubiera in this construction if you feel like it. Can you clarify this for me, please?

Ciento por ciento does not make sense

Why do we say "ciento por ciento"? Ciento is more than one hundred so shouldn't it only be cien por ciento and cien por cien?

Re: Por la mañana desayuno a las nueve.

I have breakfast at nine in the morning.

I noticed in the above that the structure of the sentence is quite different.

Could it also be: Desayuno a las nueve por la mañana.

If yes/or no why and what would the difference in meaning.

Are there any rules/lessons concerning this?

Hola,

In the sentence 'if my wife sees me dressed like that...', is the subjunctive vea acceptable since it hasn't actually happened yet?
