Spelling mistakes

Spelling mistakes

Simple spelling mistakes are part of everyday life and are too often being treated as mistakes in grammar. Writing "depidas" instead of "despidas" does not mean that I don't understand the grammar behind the lesson.

Hola William

The answers entered by students in the blanks need to be the exact word needed. This is the only way the answer can be analysed as a correct or incorrect answer. I agree with you that making simple spelling mistakes like this one doesn't reflect one does not know the content, but unfortunately this is out of our control. The good thing about Kwiziq is that you can see what you've written, compare it with the right answer, and you can always go back to the test.

Un saludo cordial,

Inma

Hi William,

I feel your frustration, it happens to me quite often. As annoying as it is  I can only deduce that our AI friend Kwizbot is not wired to recognise our minor spelling mistakes and is only able to see the correct word with accurate spelling or the incorrect, albeit oftentimes with only a tiny spelling error.

I do appreciate what you’re saying here though. Maybe in time AI will become more sophisticated and be able to differentiate between spelling mistakes and a lack of grasping grammatical concepts.

I do all my quizzes on my mobile phone. To help avoid spelling mistakes my keyboard is set in Spanish. So when I type a word the in-built spell check will note if I’m spelling a word incorrectly and automatically show up the correct spelling.

Hi Inma / Clara

I understand the difficulties that Kwiziq faces in this situation. However we are not children and each of us have different tolerances to spelling mistakes. Repeating the same grammar topic will never end spelling mistakes with keyboards. We often make spelling mistakes with keyboards that we would never make writing longhand. Kwiziq should provide an override facility for these errors. In addition, they should also advise us if we have not answered all the questions.

Cheers

William
