Why is it "le" and not "la"?

¿Quién necesita música horrible cuando está tratando de concentrarse en escuchar un discúrso?

My dictionary says fruit (the plant) is la fruta. Why is the sentence -Los frutos rojos  and not las frutas rojas ? 

While I understand the explanation via timeframes and don't want to complicate things unnecessarily, this made me think:

Can't I use the imperfect (progressive) with such timeframes, too?

Ayer estaba limpiando la casa. (Should be ok.)
Ayer entre la 1 y las 2 estaba limpiando la casa. (?)
Ayer entre la 1 y las 2 estaba limpiando la casa cuando algo me asustó. (Should be ok.)

That is, can't the imperfect (progressive) be used with an explicit timeframe, too, as long as its function is descriptive or establishing a background, i.e. as long as the aspectual semantics are imperfective within the timeframe?

The correct answer here shows both verbs in imperfect tense. Why is using preterite in the first clause and imperfect in the second clause incorrect? The lesson shows both examples in the past tense.

what is the difference between como estas? and que estas?

What is the  point of having a yo before the tengo. Cant you just put the Tengo.

Hello, my question is how to turn off any references to Latin American Spanish.  I don't want to get instruction on this version.

I am using Kwiziq for European Spanish.  Recently the program has been giving me more and more questions that require Latin American Spanish.  This is pretty frustrating and a waste of my time.  Especially around the use of "ya" and preterite tense. 

Por qué  no necesitas "que" en la frase "les pido [que] no uses insultos?
