In our “Punto y coma” podcast series, you’ll listen to Kwiziq teachers Inma and Silvia‘s light-hearted chats in Spanish about fun topics that are focused on very interesting grammar.

Listen out for their very different accents: Inma is from southern Andalusia, while Silvia is from the Basque Country in northern Spain.

Today’s podcast is about paying attention to the imperative (affirmative, tú form) in Spanish while we chat and exchange the recipes of two typical and yummy dishes from the Mediterranean diet: gazpacho and paella de marisco! 📚 Grammar: Imperative (affirmative, tú form)

 

Here are all the sentences using this grammar structure from the episode. To really understand the imperative, listen to the podcast and pay attention to the context in which they appear:

  • ¡Cuéntanos! ¿Cómo se hace un gazpacho? = Tell us, how do you make gazpacho?
  • Pon dos kilos de tomates…  = Put two kilos of tomatoes…
  • Ponlos en la batidora y tritura todos los ingredientes.= Put them in the blender, then blend all the ingredients.
  • Mete el gazpacho en la nevera y déjalo enfriar un ratito. = Put the gazpacho in the fridge and let it chill for a bit.
  • Primero, pon un poco de aceite de oliva en una paellera. = First, put a bit of olive oil in a paella pan.
  • Luego, añade ajo y tomate… = Then add garlic and tomato…
  • Prepara un sofrito. = Prepare a sofrito (a simple tomato and garlic base)
  • Echa el arroz y el caldo de pescado… = Add the rice and the fish broth…
  • Cocina la paella hasta que… = Cook the paella until…
  • Al final, deja reposar la paella cinco minutos. = At the end, let the paella rest for five minutes.
