Quiz said to say “ella” but not “él”

In one quiz answer it marked me wrong for choosing “Se llama [girl’s name],” saying I should have chosen “Ella se llama…” Then in the next quiz I chose “Él se llama” and it was marked wrong, saying I should have chosen “Se llama.” I’m confused, what is the difference?

¡Hola Sophie!

Both options are correct - you can choose to use the subject pronoun or not.

Here are some examples:

Él se llama Samuel

Se llama Samuel

Ella se llama María

Se llama María

After reviewing your responses, I've noticed that they haven't been marked as incorrect; there were simply multiple correct options (with or without the subject pronoun).

¡Hasta pronto!

Silvia
