Subordinate causal clauses

Subordinate causal clauses in Spanish are those clauses that express the cause of something happening in the main clause. These clauses depend on the main clause, so they don't make sense on their own.

Let's see some examples with some common time connectives:

"Te regañé porque hiciste algo terrible."

(I told you off because you did something terrible.)

"Me quedé en casa, no porque estuviera enferma, sino porque quería ver una película."

(I stayed at home, not because I was ill, but because I wanted to watch a film.)

"No voy a interferir, ya que no es asunto mío."

(I am not going to interfere, because it is none of my business.)

"Ella superó su problema gracias a que sus amigos la apoyaron todo el tiempo."

(She got over her problem thanks to her friends supporting her all the time.)

Not all causal clauses follow the same structure. Some need the indicative, some the subjunctive, some the infinitive, depending on the nuance.

Let me take a look at that...
