What is the point of having a yo before the tengo. Cant you just put the Tengo.

Yes, you’re absolutely right, you can simply say tengo. The pronoun yo is not necessary because the verb ending already tells us who the subject is. However, we sometimes include yo to add emphasis or to contrast with someone else, for example:
Yo tengo un coche, pero mi hermano no.
(“I have a car, but my brother doesn’t.”)
So, while both tengo and yo tengo are correct, using yo slightly changes the focus or tone of the sentence.
