I have seen “sometimes” translated as a veces. Is that wrong? Should it always be algunas veces?

Use of Veces for sometimes
Hola Brenda W.
Both forms are possible, but they do not mean exactly the same thing. “A veces” is the standard and most common way to say “sometimes” in Spanish. You do not need to say “algunas veces” unless you want to emphasise the idea of “on some occasions” or add a bit more weight to the frequency.
So:
-
a veces → the usual, natural translation of “sometimes”
-
algunas veces → also correct, but slightly more specific or emphasised
You will hear “a veces” far more often in everyday Spanish.

Hola Steve W.
Thanks for your contribution. In Spanish, “a veces” doesn’t match “at times” exactly, though they can overlap in meaning depending on the context.
“A veces” is the most common and natural way to say “sometimes” in Spanish.
“Algunas veces” is also correct, but it adds a slightly more specific nuance, closer to “on some occasions”. That’s why it isn’t necessary to use it every time.
So while “at times” can align with “a veces” in some contexts, in everyday Spanish “a veces” is the general, most frequent expression.
