Using vez/veces = time/times

In Spanish, to talk about how many times someone does something we use the word "vez" (not "tiempo").

Have a look and listen to the following examples:

Yo voy al cine una vez al mes.
I go to the cinema once a month.

Ricardo come con su familia dos veces a la semana.
Ricardo eats with his family twice a week.

Algunas veces compro en la tienda de la esquina.
Sometimes I buy in the corner shop.

Nosotras perdemos el autobús muchas veces.
We miss the bus often. [lit: many times]

Notice how:

  • The plural of "vez" is "veces". (the -z from the singular changes to -c in the plural)
  • Vez is a feminine word, so any adjectives that accompany it must agree and use the feminine form (algunas veces, muchas veces...)
