I learned naranja as the fruit and anaranjado/a as the color

I learned naranja as the fruit and anaranjado/a as the color.  Obviously language can be used differently throughout the Spanish-speaking communities! Is that the case here?

Both naranja and anaranjado can refer to the colour. Anaranjado is used to refer to a colour that is very similar to orange, i.e. referring to the tone.

Yes   different words are used for the same color just for different reasons
