Harshness/Bossiness
Hola D. L.
Good question! Using the present tense to give instructions or advice is generally less direct and therefore slightly softer than using the imperative.
The imperative (Hazlo ahora, Ven aquí) is the most direct way to give orders, so depending on the tone or context it can sometimes sound stronger or more commanding.
Using the present tense (Ahora vienes aquí, Ahora haces esto) often sounds more like a firm instruction or expectation, rather than a blunt command. In many contexts it can feel a bit more conversational or matter-of-fact.
That said, the tone still depends a lot on context, intonation and relationship between speakers.
So in short: the present tense isn’t necessarily “bossy”, but it can sound slightly softer or more natural in certain situations than the imperative, even though both express instructions.
Un saludo
Silvia
