English translation

Question

I wonder if the English translation is incorrect (specifically, the "to go"), because the Spanish sentence has no "ir" in it. Instead, there is "saltar" which the English does not seem to consider.

This is because we can't translate literally:

Nosotros queremos saltar en paracaídas este fin de semana. 
We want to go parachuting this weekend.

We can't use the verbto jump in English as you don't really say something like "to jump in a parachute" - the translation is idiomatic and generally in English you use the verb "to go":
to go parachuting / to go skydiving
In Spanish this activity is "saltar en paracaídas".

Actually, Inma, "to jump in a parachute" is a common phrase in English. I.e., "Have you ever jumped in a parachute?" The "in" here would be similar to the Spanish "en," I think. The "parachute" includes the harness and backpack, so you are literally wearing the parachute when you jump. One might say, "jump with a parachute," but that sounds like jumping with a friend, or the parachute and you both jump together. Thank you for the reply.
