¿Electo o ELEGIDO?

Usé ELECTO en vez de ELEGIDO. ¿Por qué ELECTO es un error¿

Hola Jan D.

Thank you for your question.

Although electo is a valid Spanish word, it is not the past participle of elegir used to form compound tenses or the perfect infinitive.

In this exercise, the hint specifically asks you to use the verb elegir, and in the structure después de haber + participio, the correct past participle is elegido:

Después de haber elegido el bolso marrón...

Electo is an adjective meaning "elected" or "chosen for a position", and it is used almost exclusively after someone has been elected to public office but has not yet taken office, for example:

  • el presidente electo
  • el alcalde electo

It is not used to form compound tenses, so haber electo is not correct in this context.

I hope this clarifies the difference!

Saludos

Silvia
