Are these uses of salir correct?

Are these uses of salir correct?

I noticed these uses of salir in the examples and want to double-check if they are correct.

salir=to go out

salir de un lugar=to leave a place

salir por=to leave through

salir a infinitivo=to go do an activity

salir con alguién=to go out with someone

There may be a lesson on the different meanings of salir that I don’t know about.  Thanks.

Hola Marcos R.

Yes, your observations are spot on. All the uses of salir that you list are correct, and they are very commonly used in Spanish.

In general, salir means to go out or to leave, and its meaning is refined by the preposition or structure that follows it. For example, salir de un lugar means to leave a place, while salir por specifies the way out (salir por la puerta).

When salir is followed by a + infinitive, it expresses going out in order to do an activity, as in salir a comprar or salir a cenar. And salir con alguien means to go out with someone, either socially or romantically, depending on context.

So you’re absolutely right: these are not different verbs, but different, well-established uses of the same verb salir. We don’t currently have a single lesson listing all of them together, but your summary is a very accurate overview.

Great question and thanks for laying it out so clearly!

Silvia
