Aqui, ahi, alli and now allá!!

Hi there, I love the summer too, but I'll need a little help with the word "Allá" please.

One of the answers given in this test was "y suelo ir allá mucho", the suggestes lesson for this part of the quiz was aqui, ahi & alli, but not sign of allá...  I'm wondering if allá is so far away we can't even see it :-)

Please would you help?

Hola Paul,

The use of "allá" in Peninsular Spanish is far less usual than in Latin American Spanish. We included "allá" in the exercise because there are students who have asked several times about why we don't include the word "allá" for "there". These students have studied Spanish in a Latin American country.

We didn't include "allá" in our "aquí, ahí, allí" lesson because we hardly use it.

However, I will include a note in the lesson with a little explanation about "allá".

Just so you know, we, in Spain, use "allá" when we as speakers see that "place" as something extremely far away and unreachable. Sometimes it can refer to a very far away "time".

"Allá en los países lejanos del este..."

"Allá por los años 20..."

Saludos
