NEW! Check what you really understood with comprehension exercises

Reading is one of the best ways to build your French. You pick up vocabulary in context and you see grammar being used for real. There has always been one small catch though: once you reach the end of a text, how do you know how much of it you actually took in?
From now on, we’ll help you find out. Every Interactive Reader on KiwizIQ now comes with a comprehension exercise.

How it works

Open any Interactive Reader and read it as usual. You can choose whether to show or hide the grammar hints before you start, so you can read with a bit of support or go it alone.

When you get to the end, click “Start comprehension exercise”. You’ll be asked a series of questions about what you just read: what happened, who did what, why a character reacted the way they did, that kind of thing. Type your answers in English, and you’ll get feedback on each one telling you whether you got it, partly got it, or missed it, along with what the text actually said.

Ejercicio de comprensión

Why answer in English?

Because this exercise is about one thing only: did you understand the text? If you answered in French or Spanish, we’d end up grading your spelling and grammar too, and that would muddy the picture. Answering in English means the feedback is purely about comprehension.

If you want feedback on your writing, that’s what our writing exercises are for. The two complement each other nicely: read and check you understood with our comprehension exercises, then practise your writing skill with one of our writing exercises.

Questions that match the text

Every Interactive Reader has a CEFR level, and the comprehension exercise is written at that same level. So if you’re reading a B1 text, you’re answering B1 questions. Pick Readers at your level to check your understanding, or go up a notch when you feel like a challenge.

Built with your help

We tested this with KiwizIQ learners before release, and their feedback shaped the version you’re seeing now. Thank you to everyone who took part, we cannot stress enough how precious your help was in developing this new feature.

Who can use it

Comprehension Exercises are live on both KiwizIQ French and KiwizIQ Spanish.

To celebrate their release, they are free for everyone until the 15th of October 2026!
After that date, free users can try a selection of exercises; Premium members have full access across the whole library of Interactive Readers.

Please note that the Interactive Readers themselves are free for everyone, and will always remain free!
