La Casa de Bernarda Alba

"La Casa de Bernarda Alba" has been shared to the blog from the Spanish reading exercises section of the learning library where you can find a large selection of interactive texts to help you with your reading skills.

Federico García Lorca is probably Spain’s most famous modern poet and playwright. La Casa de Bernarda Alba is one of his most well-known plays. Set in a rural house in Andalucia, it tells the story of a family of sisters ruled over by their authoritarian mother, the eponymous Bernarda, in the aftermath of their father’s death. Lorca did not know it at the time, but this was to be the last play he ever wrote.

In this video, the funeral and wake of the father is over and Bernarda announces that there will be eight years of mourning. Click any phrase to see the English translation along with related grammar which you can add to your Kwiziq notebook to practise later.
