Conjugate poder in El Pretérito Indefinido (simple past)

The verb poder (to be able to) is irregular in El Pretérito Indefinido:

Notice that in the stem the -o- is replaced by -u-

Vosotros pudisteis caminar a la montaña. You were able to walk to the mountains.

I think it should be either "a las montañas." or "to the mountain."
