El Condicional Simple-Decir

Buenas tardes,

I hope you don’t mind me asking this here since my question is not regarding Decir in the Condicional Simple but rather the usage of ‘eso mismo’ attached to the quiz question here.

I am puzzled by the following:

“Yo diría eso mismo”.

Could you explain the ‘eso’ here please? Could I still use ‘lo mismo’ or ‘el mismo’ here instead of ‘eso’?

Hola Clara

That's fine.

We can say both. Generally we'd say "Yo diría lo mismo" (I'd say the same thing [someone else has just said]), but if you want to give more emphasis to that thing someone said you could say "Yo diría eso mismo"; as if you were saying "precisely that same thing". The nuance is very subtle.

Hope this helps

Inma

By the way, we wouldn't use "el mismo" as what we are referring to here is an idea, not a specific thing that is masculine.

Thanks for your reply Inma. That’s great. I’ll remember ‘lo mismo’. :)
