Why is it "va a" and not "vas a" when using gustarse

Hi!

I noticed that when writing that "you" like something, you change the tú form from "vas a" to "va a" even though you are writing that "you" will like something. For example, the sentence "you are going to like this therapy" is written as "Te va a gustar...." instead of "Te vas a gustar..." even though you are not instructed to write in usted form. Could someone please explain why this is?

Thank you!

Hey Anton, "te gusta" doesn't mean "you like", it means "this thing pleases you".  You aren't the subject of the sentence; instead, the thing that pleases you is the subject and we conjugate according to that subject.

For example, "Te gusta este curso" means "This course pleases you".  The subject is "this course".

But if you want to recommend the course to a friend you would say, "This course is going to please you".  "Te va a gustar este curso."

Hope this helps, it's the best I could do here in my phone.

Hola Anton

Exactly as Marcos explained. The structure of the sentences are different in Spanish and English when talking about what we like. The lesson attached to that line when you do the writing challenge is this here. Have a look and also find another lesson for "gustar" at the bottom that will give you extra help.

Saludos
