When to use the continuing form

In question #1 where it says we are and the continuing form of the verb, I used estar + continuing form of verb and it was wrong.  But in question #6, it is the same questions and I used estar + continuing form of the verb and the answer was right.  What is the difference?

Hola Patricia

The hint in each question is asking to "conjugate ___ verb in El Presente". Sometimes the translation in English takes the form of the continuous present not the simple present, for example:

Veo las noticias.

I'm watching the news (Lit: I watch the news)

So, despite having a continuous tense in the English, the correct answers are those verbs in El Presente (not present continuous), if that is what the hint is asking.

I hope this clarifies it.

Saludos
