Voy, yo or me?

Hi, I was trying to make sure I translated something correctly and put the phrase “after school I go home” into a translator and it translated to “despues de la escuela me voy a casa” but the yo didn’t change to me when going other places. What caused the change?

Hola Amaya

When you say you go somewhere and the focus is on "where you go" we don't tend to use the emphatic pronoun, in this case "me".

Voy a la playa, vamos al cine, iremos a Nueva York...

However, if the focus is on the fact that you are leaving a place (you remove yourself from it) we tend to use the pronoun:

Es muy tarde,  me voy a casa.

It's late, I'm going home.

¡Eh! ¿Te vas ya?

Eh! Are you going already?

Estábamos discutiendo y de repente se fue.

We were arguing and all of a sudden he left.

We have a lesson about se aspectual that talks about this specific use of se.

I hope it helps.

Saludos
