Use of vosotros and alternative endings for imperfecto del subjunctivo

Question

Why do you use vosotros for Latin American Spanish?  My understanding is that is more for Spanish in Spain. Also, why do you focus on the alternative endings for the imperfect subjunctive? It seems like it’s focusing on something that is not as common as the other endings?  Can I tailor my quizzes and exercises so that it does not include these?

Hola Judy,
In our conjugation lessons, we always include the vosotros form in the examples, but if your focus is Latin American Spanish, you won't receive any test questions asking for the vosotros conjugation.
As for the -se endings, we think it's important to learn about both forms, even though the -ra endings are much more common in Latin America. It's true that the -se forms are less common in colloquial, everyday Spanish in Latin America, but you will still come across them, especially in more formal or literary contexts. That's why we feel it's useful for students to be familiar with both.
Having said that, we're going to go back over the lessons that cover the imperfect subjunctive and see if we can adjust them so that the balance better reflects how much less common the -se forms are in Latin American Spanish.
