¿Te dio tu madre el dinero?

Hi,

The word order in the above sentence confused me.  If the word order was changed to:

¿Tu madre te dio el dinero?

would this change the meaning of the sentence?

If not, is the word order in the original sentence commonly used?

Thanks.

Hola Colin

There is more flexibility in Spanish when changing the order of the different elements in a sentence compared to English. With Spanish interrogative sentences there is a tendency to use the verb first and then the subject, but you can keep the order like the affirmative sentence and just add the question marks; that is also fine. The meaning doesn't change at all.
