Let’s hope I win this contes!

Esperemos poder ganar este concurso …’Let’s’ and ‘I’ are two different subjects…Why isn’t it subjunctive?

Hola Ellen

We don't need the subjunctive here because in this case, the subject is the same in both clauses:

(Nosotros) Esperemos

(Nosotros) poder ganar este concurso

You'd need the subjunctive if you had two different subjects (for that, you also need "que":

Esperemos que Juan pueda ganar el concurso.

We hope that Juan can win the contest.

I hope this clarified it.

Here is a lesson on esperar que + subjunctive

Saludos

Inma
