Sonriais vs Sonriáis "

I just wrote sonriais in a blank on a test and it marked my answer "almost right", and gave the right answer as "sonriáis".

Hola Wylie

that is because the accent is missing in your answer. Sonriáis needs the accent on the "a" as per rules for accentuation in Spanish; it is a word that is stressed on the last syllable and ends on an -s, therefore the written accent is needed.

Hola,

I have again made this mistake. It's a small deal, but since the second person plural of reír is "riais" (no accent) and the the second person plural of sonreír is "sonriáis" (with accent), it would seem to be helpful that both words be included and pointed out in the lesson, as logic dictates that the two endings would be spelled the same, es decir, it would help me learn both spellings.

Kindest Regards,

Wylie
