I thought pronto meant quick - so it actually mean early?

Yes, "pronto" means early, as in "Me levanto pronto por la mañana" (I wake up early in the morning). However it could also mean "quick" in certain contexts, for example:
"¡Ven pronto! ¡Necesito ayuda!"
(Come quick! I need help!)
