Possible error

Would it be more correct to change this sample sentence:
"Puede que yo haya sido un poco brusca, pero tenía que decir la verdad."

Vs.

"Puede que yo haya ESTADO un poco brusca....."? \

Both with ser and estar are correct. If you use "estar" as you're suggesting, this brings the action closer to the present time, seen as a recent moment and conveying the result of your actions, words, attitude. With ser, this action is seen without that nuance but equally indicating that you've been rude.
