lo que with subjunctive

Hoy invito yo, así que escoged ________ os guste.

This sentence has subjunctive so am i right to say it means = choose whatever you like?

if it means = whatever you like, then why is cual or cuales wrong for this sentence?

thanks

Hola Ashlyn

Lo que and los cuales are two different relatives. El cual, los cuales, etc are used with clear referents, for example:

Escogí unos vestidos negros, los cuales eran preciosos.

I chose some black dresses, which were beautiful.

Escoged lo que os guste.

Choose whatever you like.

Here with lo que we have no referent, it´s more neutral.

Saludos
