I did not say that word

I answered: yo no dije esa palabra. Why is that marked as incorrect

Hola Jack 

The instructions say "Conjugate "decir" in the Pretérito Perfecto" - That tense is the present perfect: "he dicho" 

"Dije" would be the Pretérito Indefinido (simple past)
