‘Hacer caso’ in B2 Reader ‘Confesiones de una enamorada’

Hola,

I had never come across ‘hacer caso’ until now. From now on, whilst practising speaking Spanish to/with my daughter I’ll use this. It will be very useful since she never ‘pays attention’ and ignores me a lot whilst spending numerous hours on Instagram etc. :)

Another phrase that I’m unfamiliar with is ‘dares cuenta’ which is used in this reader- ...me doy cuenta...  Am I correct in saying that ‘hacer caso’ and ‘darse cuenta’ are phrasal verbs? Do you cover phrasal verbs anywhere in Kwiziq?

Gracias y saludos

Yes, Clara, that's a good idea and so useful with children!!

Here are some different sentences with this idiom:

No hagas caso a ese chico. No te conviene.

Don't pay attention to that guy. He is not good for you.

Debes hacer más caso a tus profesores. Ellos saben lo que dicen.

You must pay more attention to your teachers. They know what they are doing [lit: what they are saying])

Hazme caso. Estudia un poco más, o no sacarás buenas notas.

Listen to me. Study a bit  more or you won't get good results.

Mi novia no me hacía caso al principio, pero ahora se muere por mis huesos.

My girlfriend didn't use to pay attention to me in the beginning, but now she is crazy about me.

Saludos,

Inma

Hola de nuevo,

"Darse cuenta de algo" is an expression in Spanish meaning "to realise". It is similar to the structure of a phrasal verb, yes. We don't have lessons on set expressions because it would be more of a vocabulary lesson, but we have lists of vocabulary. If you go to Library, and then to Spanish vocabulary themes, you will find lots of different lists. If you scroll down to C1 there are 3 interesting lists with colloquial expressions using verbs quedar and poner, for example. We will be creating more of these lists soon.
