Hi, why is it 'esto es' and not 'eso es', as it is translated as 'that is'?

In this instance, this "esto es" is not really a literal "this is...", it's a set phrase that we use as a synonym to "es decir", as in an "explanatory" connective. We don't have a lesson for "esto es" but we do have one for "es decir / o sea" which are used the same way.
