Dicen que el amor lo puede todo

Hi,

I don't understand how the above sentence can translate as 'They say that love conquers all'.  There doesn't seem to be a word that would translate as to conquer.

Or am I missing something?

Gracias.

Saludos,

Colin

Hola Colin

This is a set expression that we use which wouldn't make much sense if we translate it literally "They say that love can it all" (???) - so the idea here is that love can achieve everything, and the most natural way to say this in English would be "they say that love conquers all".

We try to use the most natural translations in English, as much as we can.

I hope this clarified it.

Saludos

there is another phrase ' Family is everything ´ which follows the same structure

  la familia lo es todo

  el amor   lo puede  todo
