Cuando, cuándo, cuando

Cuando, cuándo, cuando

No tengo ni idea de ________ volveré a verle

Please explain on what basis cuándo is correct here and not cuando. This looks to me like a perfectly straightforward statement of fact. No one is asking a question. In fact, this sentence is an answer to a question such as, "When will you see him again?"

It's an indirect question, the same as in English.

When will you see him again?  Direct question

I've no idea when I will see him.  Although in English we use the word order of a statement, it is effectively a reported question

Where did you go yesterday?   Direct question

He asked me where I went yesterday. The 'where' functions as a question but the word order is a statement.
