Could you explain the answer to this question a bit more?

Ayer fui a la piscina y ________ la toalla? Specifically why "se me olvidé" is wrong.

For that answer to be correct it would need the verb conjugated as "olvidó", not olvidé.

When we use the accidental se form: "se me olvidó la toalla" or "se me olvidaron las llaves", for example, the verb agrees with "what is forgotten", not with the person who forgets.
