The history of Paraguay is very interesting, it dates back hundreds of years. Before the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, its lands were populated by an indigenous population which was made up of Guarani-speaking tribes and by other nomadic tribes who dedicated themselves to nomadic agriculture. Later with the arrival of the Spaniards, a great miscegenation took place and the country had to face the threat of Portuguese expansion because many expeditions from that country entered Paraguay to search for treasures. At the beginning of the 19th century, an independence movement arose which was directed simultaneously against Spain and against Argentina. In 1811, the Spanish governor was removed from power and Argentina recognised the sovereignty of the country, thus proclaiming the Republic of Paraguay in 1813.
