 Arquitectura viva en español

This week, we’re taking a small journey through the Spanish-speaking world using architecture as our guide. From the history hidden in the walls of the Alhambra, to the azulejos we still admire in everyday spaces and the grandeur of Mexican haciendas.

Each activity invites you to explore language through real places and stories. Read, listen and practice while discovering how the past still shapes what we see and say today.  🏰

Practice El Imperfecto

The Alhambra

With our fill-in-the-blanks activity today, you’ll travel back in time to explore the origins of the name of the magnificent Alhambra while practicing el imperfecto. As you read, think about how the imperfect describes background information, repeated actions and situations in the past.

“azulejo”

Do you know what azulejo means?

Azulejo is a key word in Spanish because it brings together architecture, history and culture. In Spain, azulejos have their roots in the tradition of Al-Ándalus and decorate patios, palaces and façades. In Latin America, this element arrived during the colonial period and adapted to local styles and contexts, especially in haciendas and churches.

Me encantan los azulejos de tu cocina, le dan mucho carácter y un toque muy español.
I love the tiles in your kitchen, they give it a lot of character and a very Spanish feel.
