Why is 'La personal hizo' not accepted as the right answer?

Unfortunately for me, I keep answering La instead of El and my score for the lesson is melting down.

the gender for the collective noun "personal" is masculine. We are testing this word because it is one of the short list of collective nouns used differently to English. We have an example in the lesson showing its gender:
El personal del hotel trabajó horas extra.
However I will add a note as a reminder to use it with the masculine articles. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your response. I've been misled by Google translator which shows both masculine and feminine gender acceptable.
