We went for a walk

There seem be so many ways to say this in Spanish: "fuimos a dar un paseo" is one I hear a lot.  "Hemos paseado" (or "hemos caminado") translates as "we have walked" rather than "went for,.".   It's very confusing!

Hola Sarah

Yes, true, going for a walk can be expressed in different ways: ir de paseo, dar un paseo, salir a pasear, pasear, and even more colloquial: dar(se) una vuelta, darse un garbeo.

When you say "hemos paseado", that means "we have gone for a walk". If you want to say it using the preterite, you say "paseamos", e.g. "paseamos un rato por el parque" (We walked/went for a walk for a bit in the park)

Saludos
