To mean you are coming from a specific place as in you are travelling from one country to another for example you would never say "soy de..." (this only means you are a native from that country). You then would use "venir" and probably give a bit of explanation. See this small dialogue to reflect this:
- Hace mucho que no te veo, Laura.
- Sí, verdad. Con mi trabajo nuevo siempre estoy viajando de un lugar a otro. De hecho, ahora mismo vengo de Berlín. He estado allí 3 días.
- I haven't seen you for quite a while, Laura.
- True. With my new job I am always travelling from place to place. In fact. right now I am coming from Berlin. I've been there 3 days.
