RE: Chupachups (B2) Spanish writing exercise

RE: Chupachups (B2) Spanish writing exercise

Sentence:  and about 800 lollipops were produced a day.

Kwizbot: y se producían unos 800 chupachups al día.

Is there any other way this sentence could be constructed, and if so, what, and if not, why not? And what are the rules pertaining to this.

I know that Spanish is pretty flexible, where I get tangled up, is where it’s not flexible in sentence structure.  i.e. what things are “verboten”?  Thank you, I appreciate any help in this area.

Hola Nicole,

This sentence is flexible in terms of different vocabulary used. We offer a variety of sentences in the system for this particular sentence as correct. You can use the verb "fabricar" instead of "producir": "se fabricaban...", you can also use different phrases for "daily": "a diario", "al día", "diariamente". In terms of tenses the Indefinido may also be admited as this could be seen as a completed action as well: "se produjeron", "se fabricaron".

We gave the hint "use a sentence with se" though because the periphrastic passive with "ser+ participle" would sound a bit odd, but if we stretch on flexibility you could also say: "y 800 chupachups eran producidos diariamente" (but as I said, the passive "se" construction is preferred in Spanish)

Saludos

Inma
