Odd use of "sweetie"

"if you want a sweetie, eat your soup".  lol, to me, sweetie is sweetheart, or some other affectionate term. Sweet = caramelo.

Sweetie is also used in the U.K to refer to "caramelo", but to clarify, I added a note saying that we refer to "a piece of candy".
