It would be great to provide the meanings of some of the expressions such as higos a brevas and se mantiene en sus trece.  Also, I would like to be able slow the speed down as they are speaking a bit fast.

Notice that we always offer in the introduction to each dictation vocabulary or/and expressions to look up in the dictionary before you start the exercise. Those two that you mention are included in that introduction. 
 
With reference to the speed, for a C1 dictation you will often find a fast speed, so that it matches with the level, to maintain the correct level of challenge. Remember that you can play the audio lots of times before you write your answer on each sentence.
