Los profesores ______ con los padres de los alumnos

Los profesores ______ con los padres de los alumnos

In the test section it says: "Los profesores ___ con los padres de los alumnos"

I thought that should be 'charlaron' because it is an action in the past which has been completed but the system says it is 'charlaban'.

Please explain?

Hola Daniel,

Both "charlaron" and "charlaban" are grammatically correct. But in this instance we have a hint saying "It is describing the past", so the imperfect is the descriptive past, not the preterite. If the hint was "It is referring to a completed action in the past" then you need the preterite/past simple "charlaron".

I hope this helped.

Saludos

Inma
