Hola Doug

The rule for verbs that express a wish (e.g. prefiero que..., me gustaría que, ...) or a feeling (e.g. me preocupa que..., me alegra que..., me da miedo que...) is different to the more general rule for subjunctive which says indicative for certainty and subjunctive for uncertainty. With this group of verbs the subjunctive is always used, not the indicative. In the lesson we give a small list of examples:

  • Me gusta que... (I like that...)
  • No me gusta que... (I don't like that...)
  • Me alegra que... (It makes me happy that...)
  • No me molesta que... (It doesn't bother me that...)
  • Me da igual que... (I don't care if...)
  • No me importa que...  (I don't mind if...)
  • Me encanta que... (I love that...)

Un saludo

Inma

Hi Inma, if you know that he definitely does, can you alternatively say, I’m worried, because my son is hanging around….  ?  A mi me molesta, porque mi hijo salgo con estos adolescentes?  Aha, maybe not, because the ‘que’ that triggers the subjunctive is a sort of ‘because’.  Robin
